CopyPro and Primera sign rotary duplicator patent agreement
CONCORD, CA (February 6, 2002) - CopyPro, Inc., announced today that it has finalized an agreement with Primera Technology, Inc., whereby Primera Technology will receive a license for CopyPro’s self-operating compact disc duplicator patent. The license agreement allows the manufacture and sale of high performance disc duplication and printing systems. The license covers the United States Patent 6,141,298 B1 awarded on October 31, 2000. The patent applies to and covers a variety of autoloading rotary tower disc handling systems together with disc recorders, printers and the associated controlling computer.
CopyPro’s Vice President of Development, Bill Hess, stated “I am very pleased to have Primera Technology on board. We have great respect for the Primera product offerings and they have been very successful in broadening the market.”
Benefits to Primera of being licensed include the right of unfettered development and marketing of its products. The other primary benefit to Primera is that the purchasers of Primera Technology's duplication systems will be assured that their products are fully licensed and not subject to possible third party license claims. “The technology included in CopyPro’s patent has provided us with an optimal solution for the design of our mid- to high-end duplication systems,” said Mark D. Strobel, Primera Technology’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “It has helped us immensely in accomplishing our goal of offering high performance CD and DVD duplication systems.”
There are a number of companies in the market that offer unlicensed autoloading disc duplication equipment covered by CopyPro’s patents, and these companies “will be addressed in due course” according to David Miller, President of CopyPro. The downside to patent infringement can be treble damages and removal of the product from the market.
CopyPro introduced the first rotary loading multi-drive CD-R duplicator that included disc printing capability in 1997. The CopyPro CD-R 5000 autoloader had eight drives, a 450 disc capacity unit and an integrated thermal transfer printer.
CopyPro, Inc., established in 1994, has a manufacturing facility located in Concord, California. CopyPro is a leading developer and manufacturer of disc duplicators and thermal printers. The company has a library of issued patents on a variety of CD handling geometries and thermal printers.
Primera Technology, Inc., is headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota with manufacturing and assembly facilities in Plymouth, Minnesota and Montego Bay, Jamaica. Primera Technology, is a leading developer and manufacturer of CD-R and DVD-R duplication and printing equipment.
